Doomsday has arrived! Facebook and Twitter show solidarity in banning 800 politically dissident accounts. They are trying to say the majority of these bans were the result of gross misconduct; click bait money making scams. However, this is very obviously a lie.

Many of these account operators have stated they would like nothing more than to follow Facebook's rules, if Facebook would only be clear about what those rules are.

It's blatantly obvious that this will not end well for any of these accounts. Mainstream social media is no longer a place to voice anti-establishment sentiment.

I decided to check what google had to say on the matter ('facebook purge'). I was directed to this article on the very first link:

https://heavy.com/tech/2018/10/facebook-alternatives/

Posted 12 hours ago, heavy.com recommends 'Steemit' as one potential option in the move away from censorship. It makes no mention of Busy or Steempeek, but does mention dLive, so it's not perfect. However, it does mention HF20 as a scaling solution that arrived just in time to net some of this displacement. I agree.

One criticism we received was some complexity overhead barrier to entry. Also a valid claim. We also get called somewhat of a Reddit and/or Medium clone, which is understandable if you're just looking at our blogging front ends. When the world begins to realize what we can actually do, we're headed to the moon.

Only one alternative was recommended before Steem. Something called Minds.

Looks like this site also rewards with crypto, but their erc-20 token is very new. It feels like their crypto interface only exists as an afterthought. This pales in comparison to our platform when you consider our API with SMTs on the horizon.

I won't pretend to know for sure, but it looks like the coin is distributed based on algorithms and completely controlled in a centralized manner. These algorithms are based on activity and will get gamed into the dirt. It also feels geared toward encouraging users to pay for views much like our promoted tab.

You might be thinking we do the same thing: pay to play, rent the trending tab, bid bots, and all that, but the reality is that we are a blockchain, and every block is free to be downloaded and viewed by anyone who so desires. It doesn't matter if your reputation is negative one million. Your post will still go on the chain.

This allows us to evolve while these other platforms will stay quite stagnant. Anyone in the world can develop a new way to view the blockchain. Data on centralized servers will always be restricted. We are transparent.

The article also cites Reddit and MySpace as possible havens to run to. I think this is laughable. Who's going to spend thousands of hours acquiring a following on an old site that can just as easily ban them whenever they see fit?

The results are in. Steem, despite all its problems, is the superior choice for users looking for a transparent and censorship resistant system. Not only that, it lets one invest and own a currency without borders; a currency that literally generates it's own inflation and allows the owner to distribute that inflation wherever they want. This dynamic alone is enough to boost us to the top of alternative social media options.
