By the time Bitcoin goes mainstream it will no longer be Bitcoin.
I still can't believe that mainstream centralized exchanges haven't figured this out yet. I was so mad when ISPs started measuring Internet speed in MegaBits instead of MegaBytes. That way the number they throw out at potential customers was eight times bigger than their competitors for little while. Of course all the competitors had to wise up quick and adopt this new "standard" because the average person is totally ignorant of technology.
That's just capitalism for you. Way more people will get tricked into buying megabit internet because they think it's fast than people that will boycott the company for having such a lame marketing technique.
This tactic was used long before even "megabit internet" and with far less effectiveness. Corporations selling computer hardware started claiming that a megabyte was actually 1000 bytes instead of 1024 (2^10) like it should be. Even shaving off those small numbers was often the difference between a sale and not.
The power of unit bias.
I can see the writing on the wall, and there is no way anyone is going to be saying "Bitcoin" in ten years. Bitcoin will be that thing the nerds say that no one cares about. What you want are Satoshi (Sats).
I can already see it now:
"Buy 9000 sats for just $1!!!!1"
OMG! What a good deal! Those numbers are bigger! Buy Buy Buy!
Yep, pretty much.
If you're expecting the average person to figure this stuff out by the time it becomes mainstream, think again. Don't make any bets on that direction. Such a thing has never happened. Ever. People in general enjoy the convenience of ignorance.
Of course from another perspective this makes perfect sense. You can't know everything. One must pick and choose their priorities when it comes to such a limited resource as time. That's exactly how humanity was able to spiral forward with such exponential technological gains in the first place. No sense in reinventing the wheel. If something works the way you want it to and you have other priorities, why waste time trying to figure it out?
This is something that people in the know will always capitalize on and profit from. There's a sucker born every minute. Ya just gotta figure out how to get their dollar out of their pocket into yours. Yada yada yada capitalism. It sounds exploitative, and it is. Welcome to Earth :D
Conclusion
You stackin' sats, bro? I'm stackin sats! Please correct anyone that says Bitcoin is "too expensive". I hear it ALL THE TIME. Too expensive to buy a dollar's worth? Wow, you're poor. Of course we all know that's not what they mean. Unit-bias hacks the brain and makes us feel like 0.01 Bitcoin is less than 1M Satoshi. Spoiler alert: it's not.
