Steemit Needs An Official Email Service

email-icon.png

At first the title of this post was Steem Needs An Email Service. Anyone can perform this service; anyone running a node anyway. There are things that happen on the blockchain that currently deserve a lot more attention than they are getting.

  • Passwords changed.
  • Account attempting to be recovered.
  • Money over X amount being transferred.
  • Account being powered down (7 day deadline to 1/13 loss).
  • Money exiting the bank account (3 day deadline to 100% loss).

When any of these actions happen shouldn't the owner of the account be notified via email? This super easy old tech to implement, so I immediately thought of the negative effects of linking your personal email to a Steem account.

Anyone who runs a Steem node could provide an email service that lets you know when one of the above actions happen pretty easily. In fact, it could be happening right now and we don't even know it because they are private services.

It makes the most sense for Steemit Inc to run this service because they already have emails linked to accounts. They can basically do it for free with no extra risk to themselves. This information already accessible to Steemit's Condenser Node. Anytime your account gets powered down or whatnot you'd get an email saying it happened. Add an opt-out option to cancel the service... Seems like a no-brainer.

Crypto needs to start linking up to the old tech so people feel safe using it.
