Went to a mall today.
Last time I went to one was probably like five years ago. I even bought something. Last time I actually bought something at a mall was over a decade ago for sure. To be fair I hardly ever buy anything because I'm an extremely frugal and low-maintenance person in general. Still though, what a milestone! I bought a thing in a mall in the year of our lord 2022. What an accomplishment!
This particular mall was massive, and the people watching was... fascinating. So these are the people that still go to the mall? Crazy. What a sight to behold.
Every time I go to the mall, because it is so few and far between, it seems like it changes every time. I'm told that the way of the mall is going the way of the dodo bird, but this particular one still had quite a few people in it.
These days it's just so much more convenient to simply order something online and have it delivered to my door. Some people like interacting in person. I am not some people. Maybe if I lived in a community that I actually cared about and participated in things would be different. The bigger the city, the more indifferent people are to each other.
At the very core of our evolution and humanity as a species: small groups and tribes. This is why scaling up society has been so difficult for the past couple hundred years or so. Our technology scales up just fine. Sociology not so much. Humans don't know how to care about a million people (let alone a billion people) on a genetic level.
Can crypto solve this problem?
I mean... probably not, right? At least not at first. What crypto can do is give power back to the communities that wield them, while creating stronger alliances and bonds between the tribes that are popping up.
We already see the tribalism coming into crypto something fierce. BTC maximalists are offensive. XRP maximalists are absurd and downright delusional violent psycho vibes. All maximalists are tribalists, which is ironic considering that everything Satoshi Nakamoto worked for implies that tribalism was the problem in the first place.
Still, people will continue to root for their favorite crypto just like they would their favorite sports team... except in the case of crypto... the sports team could make them a millionaire if they get lucky, which makes users exponentially more insane than they would be otherwise. Scarcity and greed make people do crazy things. It is known.
I thought I was supposed to be talking about the mall...
Yeah but crypto crypto crypto. Wen moon? Soon? Yes please. Seriously though it's just so weird walking through a mall. Look at what people are transferring their value away for. Clothes? Toys? Polished rocks? What? Humans are absurd. Anyone that can objectively look at humanity from the outside without ego can see that we are absolutely ridiculous.
I saw this YouTube video the other day that I just remembered that talked about how we should hope that aliens don't exist because if they do they're going to kill us all and take our stuff. Because that's what life does, right? It grows cancerously and uncontrollably and never finds balance.
Like wow... as if that doesn't say more about humanity and imperialism and capitalism than it does about biological life. It's amazing to watch theory-crafters get trapped inside their own box of absurdity and act as if they could never be wrong. Fake it till you make it, amirite?
Conclusion
Not really sure where I'm trying to go with this one. Does it need to have a point? Maybe not having a point is a point in and of itself. But I guarantee that I'll write another post about the next time I go to the mall... in five years... if they still exist.
